Cake Night Lyrics
“Cake Night” is usually held on the last Friday or Saturday of the month. Each group decides on the day and time suitable to their meeting. The format of the meeting is a guest speaker who shares for approximately 20 minutes, followed by celebration of sobriety milestones commemorating the first 6 months and annual lengths of sobriety. A cake is presented to each celebrant by someone who introduces them before the recipient shares themselves. Presenter and recipient remarks are suggested to be limited to a few minutes each. After all presentations have been made, everyone joins to sing the “Cake Night Song.”
“I Wanna Fly” by Errol Ranville, album cover.
We sing this song on Cake Night by candle light and it is very moving. It was selected and affirmed as the Cake Night song at the first group conscience meeting of the How It Works group on October 10, 1991. It is nondenominational, in keeping with the nature of AA. The song was recorded at Maddock Studios in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1988. The lyrics are here and you can listen to it here.
Errol was born August 1, 1953 in Ste. Rose du Lac, a small Metis community in rural Manitoba, Canada. His brother Wally also sang and played guitar on the album.
